The William Floyd School District is urging families who have yet to return Chromebooks borrowed during the COVID-19 shutdown to return them to their schools as soon as possible.

As of Sunday, 834 Chromebooks had yet to be returned, said district spokesman James Montalto.

The district has received 72 since it put out a call on Aug. 25 to parents of students who had retained the Chromebooks from the 2019-2020 school year.

The outstanding Chromebooks will be unusable this school year, as they must be updated and prepared.

The district said it needs the Chromebooks to meet the technology needs of its students during an unprecedented school year, which begins on Sept. 8.

Here’s how to apply to secure a Chromebook for this year.

Any family still in the possession of Chromebooks may return them to their school buildings from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekdays. The school will continue to follow up directly with families to ensure they are returned.
