William Floyd schools will be closed from March 16 to March 20 to give its facilities a deep cleaning as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus, the district announced in a statement Saturday afternoon.

“Although we still do not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19 within our schools, we have been notified of cases within neighboring communities,” the statement said.

“If there are any additional changes, we will notify the school community immediately. The health and safety of our students, staff and community is and will continue to be the number one priority. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this unprecedented health situation.”

The district had previously canceled programs past 6 p.m. the week before “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library also canceled all facilities until further notice, while all SUNY schools, including Stony Brook University and Suffolk County Community College, are moving to a remote format.
