New York Islanders sign LI’s Marshall Warren to a two-year deal

This Islander just became a New York Islander.

Fresh off clinching a playoff berth, the Islanders signed Laurel Hollow native Marshall Warren to a two-year, entry-level contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old defenseman played four seasons at Boston College, and then finished his college career this season as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. Serving as an alternate captain, he tallied four goals and 14 assists in 41 games in 2023-24. [Keep scrolling for highlights.]

At Boston, he posted 57 points off 20 goals and 37 assists in 130 games, helping his squad win the Hockey East regular-season title in the 2019-20 season. In his last season with the team, he became the first Black player to become a captain for BC’s hockey team.

“I think something that’s important and something that, you know, a little kid can look at me and say, well, I can do that someday,” Warren said in an interview with BC Heights.

From 2017 to 2019, he played two seasons for the United States Team National Development Program, earning a bronze medal at the 2019 IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championships.

Warren said he owes much of where he is today to his parents.

“My mom and my dad are my biggest support system,” he said during his time with the USA team. “My mom is always here talking to me; she has been back and forth but she is here for me.

“[My dad] has been one of the biggest influences in my life. He has taught me so much. He came from nothing and made himself into a business person, working for JP Morgan.”
