New York Islanders sign LI’s Marshall Warren to a two-year deal

|

This Islander just became a New York Islander.

Fresh off clinching a playoff berth, the Islanders signed Laurel Hollow native Marshall Warren to a two-year, entry-level contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old defenseman played four seasons at Boston College, and then finished his college career this season as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. Serving as an alternate captain, he tallied four goals and 14 assists in 41 games in 2023-24. [Keep scrolling for highlights.]

At Boston, he posted 57 points off 20 goals and 37 assists in 130 games, helping his squad win the Hockey East regular-season title in the 2019-20 season. In his last season with the team, he became the first Black player to become a captain for BC’s hockey team.

“I think something thatโ€™s important and something that, you know, a little kid can look at me and say, well, I can do that someday,” Warren said in an interview with BC Heights.

From 2017 to 2019, he played two seasons for the United States Team National Development Program, earning a bronze medal at the 2019 IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championships.

Warren said he owes much of where he is today to his parents.

โ€œMy mom and my dad are my biggest support system,โ€ he said during his time with the USA team. โ€œMy mom is always here talking to me; she has been back and forth but she is here for me.

“[My dad] has been one of the biggest influences in my life. He has taught me so much. He came from nothing and made himself into a business person, working for JP Morgan.”
