Great South Bay Brewery beers medal in state, world competitions

|

It was a big week for Great South Bay Brewery.

The brewers from Bay Shore came home with medals from both the TAP NY and the World Beer Cup contests.

It was the 21st Tap NY Craft Beer Festival at Hunter Mountain, which ran from April 28-29, and Great South Bay’s Nauti Girl IPA took home the gold medal in the New England-style IPA category.

GSB beat out 30 other breweries in the crowded category.

Then, the brewery’s brand-new Pilsner Lager took home the bronze medal in the light lager category.

“It is a true honor to be recognized amongst our New York State brewers to medal in not only one category but two,” said Great South Bay Brewery’s founder, Dr. Rick Sobotka.

Then, on May 3, the winners of the World Beer Cup were announced at the annual Craft Brewers Convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Great South Bay was excited to learn they got a third place medeal for Jetty Ale.

Jetty Ale was chosen out of 65 entries from all around the world to win the bronze medal in the Honey Ale category, according to a Great South Bay Brewery announcement.

That marked Jetty Ale’s third medal in recent years. In 2016, the brew won gold at The Great American Beer Festival, then silver at the same festival in 2017.

“We are extremely proud of our Brewers and their accomplishments for striving hard every day to make quality & award winner beer,” said Dr. Sobotka, a fourth-generation brewer and a board-certified anesthesiologist.

Great South Bay Brewery had its first official launch on Long Island in 2010.
