A Massapequa woman is charged with second-degree murder after police say she stabbed a sleeping man in the neck inside a Beaumont Avenue home early Monday.
Bleeding profusely and screaming, the victim manage to stumble up the stairs to his parents, who held their son and tried to slow the bleeding in their kitchen as he died in their arms, police said on Tuesday.
Kristin Sculley, 22, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Nassau First District Court in Hempstead. She was ordered to be held in jail without bail.
Friends identified the victim as Bobby Carragher, 28, News 12 Long Island reported.
Nassau County Police Detective Lt. George Darienzo said during a news conference that investigators believe Sculley became angry at Carragher and stabbed him in the neck while he lay sleeping in bed on the lower level of the house.
“He climbed the stairs to seek the assistance of his mother, screaming,” Darienzo said. “His mother and father came to his aid. They attempted to control that bleeding in the kitchen. And at some point their son became unresponsive.”
Sculley and Carragher had known each other for several years, police said. Darienzo described the relationship as a friendship, but provided no further details.
Investigators noted possible drug involvement in the attack, though no drugs were recovered from the home.
“We have evidence that there may have been some drug use, but no drugs that we’re aware of at this time were in the home,” Darienzo said.
Officers responding to the Beaumont Avenue residence shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday found Carragher unconscious and suffering from a stab wound. A police medic pronounced him dead at the scene.
