Suffolk County Police are warning the public after a suspected batch of dangerous narcotics led to the deaths of three people and left a fourth seriously injured in Coram on Friday.
The department issued an alert Friday night, urging residents to use extreme caution due to a “potentially deadly substance present in the drugs.”
Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific substance involved but said it is believed to be part of a contaminated or unusually lethal batch.
In response to the spike in overdoses, police deployed additional resources to the area, including the department’s Medical Crisis Action Team (MedCAT), which is specially trained in advanced life support and overdose response.
Detectives from the homicide and narcotics sections are investigating the incident and working to trace the origin of the drugs.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Suffolk County Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.220.TIPS.
