Amagansett Clam Bar owners purchase Sag Harbor’s landmark Corner Bar

|

Husband-and-wife duo John and Kelly Piccinnini are taking over operations at The Corner Bar at 1 Main Street in Sag Harbor, according to an announcement.

The local couple, who also own The Clam Bar and Sett Coffee in Amagansett, said they will maintain the restaurant’s original name while introducing a refreshed concept that blends its storied past with a more modern sensibility.

The vision, they said, is to preserve The Corner Bar’s old-school neighborhood charm while updating the design, brand and menu.

The space, which was established in 1978 and is among the most recognizable businesses in the village, will retain its signature forest green trim and accents, along with the iconic mahogany bar, which will be refurbished and polished.

New leather banquette seating is planned to create a cozier layout, and décor elements such as retro sports pennants and nautical sailing flags will pay homage to Sag Harbor’s maritime history. The menu will continue to feature fan favorites, including a signature burger and fish and chips, alongside updated takes on modern comfort food.

The taps are expected to spotlight local breweries such as Kidd Squid, Springs Brewery and Montauk Brewing Company, the announcement also reads.

The Corner Bar officially closed its doors on Sunday, Feb. 8, reads this East Hampton Star report. There was also a party for the last call.

“We all came here today not to say goodbye, but to say thank you for what took place at this establishment,” Tom Fabiano, a former Sag Harbor Village police chief, said to loud cheers, according to the report. “Memories will be forever in this bar. The memories cannot escape this place, and I think they’re all good memories that we have in here.”

An opening timeline for the “new” Corner Bar was not immediately provided.
