Massapequa High School was evacuated this morning due to a threat that was later deemed non-credible.

Massapequa High School was placed on a secure lockout early Monday morning after a threat was reported to police, authorities said.

The incident was reported at 6:45 a.m., prompting officials to delay the start of the school day by two hours as a precaution.

Police and school administrators conducted a search of the building, and the lockout was lifted just after 8:30 a.m. and students returned to classes, according to the district.

The district alerted parents, students and staff about the situation.

“Massapequa High School is currently in a secure lockout while officials investigate a possible threat directed toward the school,” the district said in an alert. “Out of an abundance of caution, we will operate on a 2-hour delay this morning as police and school administrators continue their investigation.

“We apologize for the inconvenience. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available,” the district added in its message.

No other district schools affected

Authorities confirmed the threat was deemed non-credible. Massapequa High School was the only school in the district affected; all other schools operated on their normal schedules.
