A beloved Greek diner that was forced to close last summer in Queens has found new life in a freshly renovated space, this time in Syosset.
The Neptune Diner, originally located at 31-05 Astoria Boulevard in Astoria, closed July 28 after 41 years in business, shocking the surrounding community. Known for its 24-hour service and traditional Greek-American dishes, its doors were forced to shut after the property was sold and the diner’s lease was up.
However, not long after closing, co-owner Constantine Doukas said the family found a new home in the former Celebrity Diner, located at 312 Jericho Turnpike in Syosset, in October 2024. The Neptune Diner officially opened last month.
“We did a whole renovation,” Doukas said.
Inside the freshly painted restaurant are new and shiny booths, glossy tables and décor that’s reminiscent of a 1950s-era diner out of a movie.
A modern, semicircle bar is the focal point of the space, along with new windows and light fixtures to match.
There are the staple breakfast sandwiches, fluffy, decorated pancakes and an array of omelets, along with lunch and dinner options such as the chicken burrata wrap and savory French onion soup.
“We’re an American diner,” Doukas said, “But I recommend anything Greek, too.”
The family behind Neptune also own two other diners, one in Brooklyn and the other in Bayside, Queens.
The “new” Neptune Diner is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. everyday.
