A joint letter to the public was released today announcing theĀ discontinuation of 1 a.m. ferries from Fire Island’sĀ Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park to the mainland.
The last boat to depart Ocean Beach on Fridays will now be 11:15 p.m. and the last boat on Saturdays will be 11 p.m., according to a letter from the Village of Ocean Beach.

The same goes for Ocean Bay Park, accordingĀ to the letter, which is signed by both Mayor James S. Mallott and Fire Island Ferries president Tim Mooney and dated May 31.
Mallott writes the decision came “after a lengthy meeting with Fire Island Ferries today, May 31.”
No other details were immediately disclosed.
Water taxi services are also being restricted, according to the letter, which appears below. The last water taxi allowed to depart Ocean Beach will be at midnight.
