That’s not just us saying it.
Greater Long Island this month earned first place honors for Best Social Media Account by an Organization for our Instagram page.
“Demonstrates strong sensibility in maintaining consistent branding and tone while effectively translating journalistic headlines for social media,” the judges wrote. “Highest engagement among submitted accounts, with especially strong comment activity and participation from local audiences.
“Ranked first based on overall execution and audience response.”
But that wasn’t the only enviable piece of hardware or paper certificate for Greater Long Island this month at the 2026 Press Club of Long Island (PCLI) Media Awards at The Fox Hollow in Woodbury.
The team at GLI also took first-place awards for Neighborhood/Community reporting for a story about the collapse of a travel lacrosse organization, which was written and reported by GLI’s executive editor, Brian Harmon.
Another first place award came in the Sports Feature video category: Ice Scooters Return to Long Island for the First Time in Nearly a Decade.
The reporting and footage from the ice scooters feature was also re-packaged for a vertical video on Instagram, which earned a second place PCLI Award for Best Social Media Reel or Vertical Video.
The ice scooter work was conducted by Nicholas Esposito, Jamie Stuart and Andrew Theodorakis.
GLI was recognized for operating the second-Best News Website and second-best Website Homepage Design, each behind a newly redesigned 27east.com, operated by The Express News Group, covering the Island’s South Fork. (Greater Long Island is recognized by PCLI nearly annually for operating one of the Top 3 best news sites on Long Island.)
The rest of the awards further illustrated the breadth of Greater Long Island’s news coverage:

“These awards belong to a team that works hard every day to showcase the people, places and stories that make Long Island special.”
