Greenlawn continues to dominate Suffolk for best drinking water

|

Bayville took home the Nassau title

Long Island’s water providers went head-to-head this month in one of the Island’s most unexpectedly competitive annual traditions: a blind taste test for tap water bragging rights.

The 38th annual Drinking Water Tasting Contest, hosted by the Long Island Water Conference at Farmingdale State College, drew 17 water providers from Nassau and Suffolk counties to see whose H2O would come out on top.

After more than 380 participants cast their votes over the two-day event, the Greenlawn Water District claimed Suffolk County’s crown, while the Incorporated Village of Bayville Water Department took home the Nassau title.

“We look forward to this every year,” LIWC Chairman Brendan Warner said in an announcement. “It’s a fun way for Long Islanders to connect with the people responsible for delivering clean, reliable water every day.”

Greenlawn officials said the district has now won five times in the last nine years — and back-to-back victories are no small feat considering the level of competition. Chairman John H. Clark credited district staff and field crews for consistently delivering water that residents not only trust, but apparently really enjoy drinking.
