The North Fork village’s 34th annual Maritime Festival is less than two days away. The weekend event, held September 21-22, features a full slate of activities celebrating the village’s rich maritime history.
Organized by the East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation, the festival takes place in various locations across Greenport, including Front Street, Mitchell Park and the waterfront.
Festivities kick off Saturday at 10 a.m. with the opening of the festival and various exhibits at Mitchell Park, including a classic boat display and the inflatable life-sized whale, Delilah. The day’s highlights include the Merry Merfolk parade at 11 a.m. through the heart of the village and live performances by the sea shanty group Bangers & Mash on the Mitchell Park stage.
Other activities on Saturday include children’s games, a pirate entertainment show, and a sea shanty sing-along.
Note: Lineup for the parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday on Broad Street.
On Sunday, the family-friendly entertainment continues with a Paul Drum Pirate & Mermaid breakfast at 212 Front Street Station at 10 a.m. Competitions, including the cardboard boat race and snapper fishing contest for children, take place along the waterfront.
Both days will feature live music, nautical crafts, food and drink vendors, and educational displays. Additionally, visitors can enjoy demonstrations aboard the historic oyster dredge The Ida Mae.
