Hanover Bank is the newest arrival in upper Port Jefferson, officially opening its doors June 25 at 1 North County Road.
The branch is located inside the freshly built One North complex by The Gitto Group, on the former site of the original PJ Lobster House. With sleek design elements and private spaces for financial consultations, Hanover is the first tenant to move into the multi-use building, which includes about 35 apartments, a rooftop terrace and a garage.
According to Annette Esposito, Hanover’s first vice president and director of marketing, the lease was signed over a year ago, making this grand opening a long time coming.
This marks Hanover’s 10th location, joining a growing network across Long Island, New Jersey, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Port Jeff is also the bank’s second Suffolk County branch, with the other in Hauppauge — the hometown of CEO Michael Puorro.
“We’re thrilled to open our newest branch in the heart of Port Jefferson,” Puorro said. “This vibrant Long Island community aligns perfectly with our values, and we’re proud to invest not just in the area, but in its people.”
The new office offers a full suite of commercial banking services — including commercial lending, treasury management and cash flow solutions — along with personal checking, savings, loans and digital banking tools.
Puorro said Hanover makes a point to hire people who live nearby.
“By hiring local talent, we’re building a team that understands and reflects the spirit of the community — we’re not just opening an office, we’re becoming neighbors,” he said. “We’re excited to serve the people and businesses of Port Jeff and to build lasting relationships that go beyond banking.”
The One North development was approved in 2015 as part of a broader plan to revitalize the Upper Port area.
“At the end of the day our living mantra, our guiding principle, is our clients are the greatest resource and without them we have nothing,” Esposito said. “Our clients are number one and it will be an honor to serve our customers in Port Jefferson.”
