A new emergency department is coming to East Hampton — and it’s unlike anything the South Fork has seen before.
Stony Brook Medicine, Southampton Hospital Association, and the Southampton Hospital Foundation hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 5, to celebrate the upcoming opening of the Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Department.
The 22,000-square-foot facility, located at 400 Pantigo Place, is expected to open later this spring and will be one of only a handful of free-standing emergency departments in New York State.
“We thank our donors for their generosity and commitment to this project,” said Jim Forbes, chair of the Southampton Hospital Association. “We are grateful for the $10 million state grant made to Stony Brook University and the unwavering support of the Town of East Hampton and its residents throughout this planning process.”
Designed to serve year-round and seasonal residents from East Hampton, Amagansett, Montauk, Sag Harbor, and Springs, the new center will operate 24/7, 365 days a year — holidays included.

As an off-campus extension of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s emergency department, the East Hampton facility comes fully loaded with advanced diagnostic tools and life-saving equipment, including:
- A dedicated resuscitation room
- Cardiac monitoring in every exam room
- Specialized fast-track treatment rooms for general, pediatric, OBGYN, and ophthalmology patients
- Two isolation rooms
- A full imaging center with MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and X-ray
- An on-site ambulance for transport to other hospitals
The eco-conscious design also features rooftop solar panels, a rain-catch garden, and native plantings to help reduce its environmental footprint.
Officials say the new emergency department addresses a long-standing need for accessible, high-quality emergency care on the far eastern end of the South Fork.
An official opening date is set to be announced later this spring.
