These Port Jefferson hospitals were two of three medical centers on Long Island to receive the top grade for patient safety, a recent ranking shows.
St. Charles Hospital, a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island, and Northwell’s Mather Hospital earned “A” ratings in this category for spring 2020 by the Hospital Safety Score, a list released by The Leapfrog Group.
According to a release, hospitals are rated on how well they prevent errors, infections, injuries and drug mix-ups that could lead to medical complications and unnecessary loss of life.
“Our goal is to inform patients about local hospitals with the best safety measures in place and the strongest records,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Every hospital can earn an ‘A’ grade, and we’re proud of the hospitals that are committed to making an effort to protect patients from harm.”
The other island hospital to earn this feat on this list is St. Charles’ sister hospital St. Francis in Rosyln.
