The wait is over.
BJ’s Wholesale Club’s 99,000-square-foot Commack location will open its doors Friday, Jan. 7.
On Wednesday, workers were configuring aisles of televisions, packing freezer cases and stocking shelves two stories high for the store’s grand opening.
In addition to groceries and household essentials in bulk, shoppers can expect a full-service deli and fresh meat, chicken, poultry and produce. There is also an electronics department, clothing for men, women and children, an assortment of books, a tire center and an optical center.
Membership prices range from $55 annually for the inner circle membership to $110 annually for the perks rewards program.
The new super store marks the company’s 224th location across 17 states and its 12th on Long Island.
“We’re excited to expand our footprint in Long Island, with the opening our new club in Commack,” Dan Smith, club manager of BJ’s in Commack, said in a press release dated Wednesday. “We’re looking forward to bringing BJ’s outstanding offerings to Commack and the surrounding community. We can’t wait for our doors to open on Friday and serve our members and community in this new year.”
Each new club establishes a relationship with a local foodbank through BJ’s feeding communities program it launched in 2009.
Kyle Byrnes, a spokesperson for the company, said the Commack store will donate unsold produce, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and bakery products to Island Harvest.
The other 11 Long Island clubs donate to either Island Harvest or Long Island Cares.
“To date, holistically if you look at the program at large, we’ve donated over 120 million pounds of food to Feeding America member food banks across our footprint,” Byrnes said.
BJ’s was built in the old Macy’s property, which prior to that was a Stern’s department store.
