Great South Bay team to open Magnolias, a martini-focused bar in Bay Shore

|

The team behind the Great South Bay Brewery is shaking things up in downtown Bay Shore with its newest venture, called Magnolias — opening in the old King’s Chophouse location.

It’s a New York City-inspired cocktail bar with a focus on traditional martinis and a high level of hospitality.

“Upscale but approachable,” general manager Joey LaRocca tells Greater Long Island. “Everything we do here will have hospitality in mind.”

“We know there are a lot of great places on Long Island, but not enough that do it the way we want to,” he added.

While the owners are the same as Great South Bay, the new spot is a completely separate concept that’s been in the works for nearly six months. Instead of craft beer, many of the drinks at Magnolias would make James Bond proud. Think Vesper Martini, just like “007” enjoyed in Casino Royale.

LaRocca says dry gin and vodka are among the focal points.

“Classics done right,” says LoRocca. “We want people to come here, enjoy our drinks, eat some food, and stay here for hours.  The Bay Shore community is the perfect spot for that.”

Then there’s the menu, which will offer “eclectic dishes,” the owners say, with a raw bar and small bites among the options.

LaRocca tells GLI the team is aiming for a mid-September opening.

Magnolias takes over the former home of Kings Chophouse at 52 E Main Street in Bay Shore.

To start, the plan is to be open six days a week, closed on Mondays.
