Goodbye Bloomin’ Onion. The sizzle has gone silent.
Outback Steakhouse, a staple for steaks, seafood and its iconic onion appetizer, Outback Steakhouse in East Setauket has permanently closed. The restaurant’s lease is expiring and its last day open was Sunday, a spokesperson for the chain confirmed to Greater Long Island.
The East Setauket location, which held court in East Setauket for three decades, follow the closure of the Outback in Merrick, which shuttered in October 2025 after nearly three decades in business.
On Tuesday, workers were moving equipment from inside the location into a U-Haul van. Two red dumpster were also stationed near the closed restaurant.
The east Setauket Outback was located at the end of the shopping center anchored by Kohl’s; Rumble two doors down closed in August.
Outback Steakhouse is part of Bloomin’ Brands, Inc., the Tampa-based company behind Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. In recent years, Bloomin’ Brands has been closing underperforming restaurants as it navigates shifting dining trends and increased competition in casual dining.
“Some Team Members will have the opportunity to transfer to a nearby restaurant and will also receive a transition bonus,” said a spokesperson for Bloomin’ Brands. “We appreciate the community’s support the past 30 years and look forward to serving them at our Holbrook, Commack or Lindenhurst restaurants.”
In early 2024, Bloomin’ Brands announced it would close 41 underperforming restaurants across its portfolio. The chain still counts more than 500 locations nationwide.
