The woman whose body was pulled from the Long Island Sound in Lloyd Harbor this week has been identified as missing 32-year-old Brittany Kritis-Garip of Oyster Bay.

Suffolk Police’s announcement Wednesday brings a heartbreaking end to a three-week search that drew widespread public support and leaned on hope from her family and friends.

Police confirmed that Kritis-Garip was the woman who was found deceased Monday after officers responded to a 911 call reporting a body floating in the water off Lloyd Harbor Road.

Detectives believe her cause of death to be non-criminal in nature, cops said.

Her grieving brother

Kritis-Garip’s brother, Niko Kritis, shared the grim update in a touching and heartfelt Facebook post.

“The search for my sister has come to a close,” he wrote. “Brittany was, and will always be, a light in the lives of everyone she met.

“Her warmth, kindness, and spirit left a lasting mark on so many people,” he continued. “That light does not disappear — it lives on in all of us who knew and loved her.”

Kritis-Garip was reported missing March 20 after she exited a moving car in Oyster Bay, and then ran away. Her disappearance prompted an extensive search effort led by family and friends, who canvassed neighborhoods, shoreline areas and wooded sections while urging the public to check cameras and share her photo online.

Her wallet had previously been found near Oyster Bay Harbor, intensifying the search along the North Shore.

Relatives had said Kritis-Garip was last seen wearing a black jacket, gray sweatpants and white sneakers, details they circulated widely in hopes someone might remember spotting her in the days after she vanished.

The search effort grew into a regional campaign across social media, where supporters repeatedly shared missing-person posters and updates while family members pleaded for surveillance footage and tips.

The confirmation of her death has deeply touched the Oyster Bay community.

“We all share in your sorrow and will continue to pray for your family … incredibly sorry for the devastating loss of your beautiful sister Brittany,” Donna Gentile Viscovich commented on Niko Kritis’ Facebook post. “My heart aches for all of you. Brittany has touched my life and many others in the Oyster Bay community.”
